Big Horn Nature Conservancy Charitable Trust Trail Rules & Waiver


  • Access to the land & trails at Big Horn Conservancy is prohibited unless the waiver is signed.
  • Each individual age 18 and above must sign their own waiver. Parents/Guardians of individuals under age 18 (minors) can provide their name(s) and sign on their behalf.
  • Even with a signed waiver, the general public is only permitted to access the trails from sunrise to sunset each week.
  • Weekday access is only for Big Horn Conservancy guests and members.

Trail Rules

  • Access to the land & trails is at your own risk.
  • For safety reasons, you are encouraged to study the trail map and bring the appropriate resources and equipment needed to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
  • The trails can be utilized for walking and hiking.
  • Hunting and trapping are prohibited. Please respect the wildlife and plant life and do not leave any trash behind, including food scraps. Pets are permitted on the trails but must remain on a leash at all times. The leash must be no longer than 6 feet in length and held securely by the owner. All pet and human waste should be bagged and removed from the property.
  • Camping & campfires are prohibited. We will eventually provide designated campsites that will only be available to guests and members.
  • Smoking is prohibited on the trails due to the wildfire risk and environmental impact.
  • Foraging, fishing, rock-climbing and spelunking are prohibited unless authorized by a staff member and/or part of a guided experience.
  • The use of motorized equipment, including motorbikes, ATVs and snowmobiles is prohibited.
  • If an emergency occurs while on the grounds or trails, please call 911 and notify a staff member.
  • We reserve the right to close trails or the entire property at any time.
  • By e-signing this agreement, I agree to comply with these rules and acknowledge that my permission to use the trails and grounds may be revoked at any time by Big Horn Nature Conservancy, without notice, for failure to comply with these rules or for any other reason deemed necessary for the safety of myself, other guests, or the property.

Trail Waiver

In consideration of my use of the trails & grounds at Big Horn Nature Conservancy, I expressly agree and contract, on behalf of myself, my heirs, executors, administrators, successors and assigns, that Big Horn Nature Conservancy and its insurers, employees, officers, and associates, shall not be liable for any damages arising from personal injuries (including death) sustained by me on or about the premises, or as a result of the appointment, class or program I am participating in.

By e-signing this agreement, I accept and assume full responsibility for any and all injuries, damages (both economic and non-economic), and losses of any type, which may occur to me, and I hereby fully and forever release and discharge Big Horn Nature Conservancy, its insurers, employees, officers, and associates, from any and all claims, demands, damages, rights of action, or causes of action, present or future, whether the same be known or unknown, anticipated, or unanticipated, resulting from or arising out the use of the trails and grounds.

I expressly agree to indemnify and hold Big Horn Nature Conservancy harmless against any and all claims, demands, damages, rights of action, or causes of action that may arise from injuries or damages sustained by me.

I agree to be solely responsible for my safety and wellbeing. I understand that Big Horn Nature Conservancy does not provide supervision or assistance for the use of the trails and grounds.

I agree to comply with all rules imposed by the Big Horn Nature Conservancy regarding the use of the trails and grounds and agree to conduct myself in a controlled and reasonable manner at all times.

I understand and acknowledge that the use of the trails & grounds involves risk of injury, including permanent disability and death. This document constitutes the entire agreement between you and Big Horn Nature Conservancy and supersedes any prior or contemporaneous oral or written agreements, understandings, or representations.

This agreement and all claims or causes of action arising out of or related to it shall be governed by the laws of the State of Pennsylvania, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any legal action or proceeding arising under this agreement shall be brought exclusively in the federal or state courts located in the State of Pennsylvania. If any portion of this waiver is found to be unenforceable, the remainder of the waiver will be given full force and effect to the greatest extent possible.

If I am a parent or legal guardian with a minor, I acknowledge that I am signing this waiver on behalf of the minor(s) identified below. I agree that all the terms and conditions of this waiver and release apply to the minor's use of the trails and grounds and participation in all activities. I assume all risks and responsibilities for any injury, death, or damage sustained by the minor(s) and agree to indemnify and hold Big Horn Nature Conservancy harmless from any claims brought by or on behalf of the minor(s).

I HAVE READ THE FOREGOING WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND VOLUNTARILY EXECUTED THIS DOCUMENT WITH FULL KNOWLEDGE OF ITS CONTENT.
